With over 250 confirmed cases of Dengue fever, David Ige, governor of the state of Hawaii has declared a state of emergency to fight Zika virus and Dengue fever.

Although there has been no recorded case of Zika on the island, but the state would be taking precautions as the mosquito that carries Dengue fever can also transmit the Zika virus.

"We are doing everything we can to be prepared, to be proactive, to prevent vector borne diseases here in Hawaii," Ige said.

In 2009 the state of Hawaii slashed its mosquito control and entomology staff from 56 employees to 25 employees in 2016.

The director of the department of health, Virginia Pressler has stated that’s the state plans on hiring 10 new entomology staffs.
