Alleged N5.5bn Debt: Drama As Otudeko Appears In Court

There was drama in court, as supporters of the Chairman of Honeywell Group Ltd, Oba Otudeko, tried to prevent journalists from taking pictures and recording during his appearance at the Federal High Court.
Mr Otudeko appeared at the court today in obedience to a witness summons issued on him by the court.
He was summoned to give evidence, in relation to an alleged N5.5billion debt owed Ecobank Nigeria Plc.
He was however not allowed to testify owing to sharp arguments between the plaintiff and the defence counsel.
The issue had to do with whether he could be examined, cross-examined and re-examined on his statement on oath before the court.
Mr Otudeko made an appearance in court to avoid being given a bench warrant after it was alleged that he had ignored the court summons to appear before it and testify.
But in his address, he was reported to have denied receiving any summons.
While making his first appearance in court, he expressed excitement and commended on professionalism in practise.
After the sitting, a mild scuffle broke out for almost an hour between some of his supporters and journalists covering the proceedings.
Supporters of Mr Otudeko tried to block journalists from taking shots as they left the courtroom.
On his way to his car he encountered pressmen but was shielded by his aides.
Justice Mohammed Idris, has therefore adjourned  the case till February 14, for the parties to address the court on this issue.
